Projects, Renovation and Improvement Works
To enhance campus safety, structural integrity, operational resilience, and overall user experience, CDMO has undertaken a comprehensive suite of maintenance and improvement projects across our facilities. Key highlights include:
- Waterproofing Improvement Works:
Comprehensive waterproofing improvement works were carried out on the roofs of the S H Ho Academic Building, Old Hall, M Canteen, as well as Yip Kit Chuen and Yuen Yuk Hing Hall. This upgrade significantly strengthens the roofs’ protective barrier, effectively mitigating the risk of water seepage to the floors below.

2. Aluminum Cladding Replacement Works at Lee Shau Kee Complex
Aluminum cladding along the nullah bank at Lee Shau Kee Complex was replaced in February 2026 as part of ongoing flood resilience enhancements. This work strengthens the protective infrastructure along the watercourse and reduces the risk of structural damage from storm surges and floodwaters during heavy rainfall or typhoons.
3. Retaining Wall Refurbishment and Repainting Works
Full repainting works were carried out along the pipe pile retaining wall at the covered car park of S H Ho Academic Building, enhancing structural durability and surface protection.
- Car Park Improvement Works and Space Creation Across Campus and Residential Colleges
To optimise overall parking capacity, accessibility, and traffic flow across the university, a total of 23 new car parking spaces were created across key campus locations:
- HSUHK Jockey Club Residential Colleges: Added 5 new car parking spaces across the G/F podium areas and LG/F indoor parking zones, complete with fresh floor markings and optimised vehicular layouts to better serve residents, staff, and visitors.
- Lee Shau Kee Complex: Created 3 new parking bays on the paved plaza area adjacent to the complex to ease local parking demand.
- Area Adjacent to Staff Quarters and Old Hall: Added 15 new parking spaces with clear boundary markings to maximise space utilisation in the open surface lot.
5. Preservation and Rejuvenation Projects for M Building
a. M Improvement Works
To ensure the long-term structural integrity and safety of M-Building, originally built in 1980, CDMO is actively executing a comprehensive improvement project. The scope of work includes external wall enhancements, waterproofing, re-roofing, rooftop signage renewal, and structural conditions surveys. Following the completion of full-height bamboo scaffolding and green safety mesh setup in March 2026, external works have progressed significantly, focusing on hacking off existing plaster, repairing spalling concrete, conducting hammer tapping condition tests and associated external wall rendering and painting works. The overall improvement works are expected to be completed in January 2027.
b. M Building Generator Set Replacement
To strengthen emergency power resilience for critical building services, CDMO has replaced the aging generator set serving M Building, Staff Quarters, and Old Hall in April 2026. The project enhances system reliability, operational efficiency, and statutory compliance. Scope of works included decommissioning the old unit, installing a new generator with ancillary systems, and complete testing and commissioning.
c. M Building Water Tank Repair Works
To maintain a safe and reliable water supply, CDMO completed major repair works on the M Building water tanks in April 2026. The project addressed deterioration identified during condition assessments, restoring operational integrity and extending the system’s service life without full replacement. Scope of works included structural repairs, waterproofing improvements, and associated maintenance.
d. M Building Main Switch Board Replacement
To ensure a resilient electrical supply for M Building, Staff Quarters, and Old Hall, CDMO has commenced replacing the aging Main Switch Board (MSB). Implemented in phases to minimize operational disruption, temporary power arrangements for essential areas were completed on 9 August 2026. The scope includes replacing the existing MSB and power distribution components, alongside necessary modifications to enhance reliability, maintainability, and safety compliance.
6. Renovation Works of New Catering Outlet at S H Ho Academic Building
The renovation works for new catering service provider (WeCoffee) commenced in June 2026 and completed by end of July 2026. WeCoffee held its soft opening on 3 August 2026, followed by its grand opening on 10 August 2026. The new venue offers a welcoming and convenient spot for the campus community to relax while enjoying handcrafted coffee, light bites, and a wide selection of Western dishes.
7. Improvement Works of Lavatories on M2/F
To enhance hygiene, comfort, and user experience, CDMO carried out upgrading works for the lavatories on M-2/F, M Building. Commencing in late May 2026 and completed in mid-August 2026, the project introduced a modernized air conditioning system and touchless sensor across washbasins, urinals, and water closets to promote water conservation and touch-free sanitary operation.
8. Renovation Works of HSUHK@Shek Mun
In alignment with the HSUHK Strategic Plan 2023–2028, the University is establishing a new off campus facility in the Metropole Square of Shek Mun. The University has acquired two floors and they are on 11/F and 12/F respectively. HSUHK@Shek Mun which is located on the 11th floor of Metropole Square (19,139 sq. ft.), will provide dedicated teaching and learning facilities to accommodate rapidly growing Taught Postgraduate (TPG) programmes in September 2026. The 12/F will be used for housing the University administrative departments and offices which will commence its operation by January 2027.
The renovation of HSUHK@Shek Mun, which commenced in mid-May 2026 and completed for furniture installation in late July 2026 is officially open on 1 September 2026.
