1. Wet Umbrella Dryer

Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues. To support campus sustainability and to keep the entrances safe and clean, CDMO has set up wet umbrella dryer since June 2023 in the entrance of S H Ho Academic Building and Lee Quo Wei Academic Building to reduce use of disposable plastic umbrella covers.

2. Umbrella-for-share

Umbrellas for temporary use on rainy days are now available on a first come first served basis. After use, please return the umbrella at any of the umbrella service points located at the entrance of the campus buildings as shown in the map below for the next user in need.

3. Temporary offices at 1/F Lee Shau Kee Complex

To resolve pressing space needs, a temporary office was completed at 1/F Lee Shau Kee Complex and in use since October 2022. CDMO will continue to explore better space use and enable space planning to be more optimal and  desirable in the time ahead.

Newsletter 202303 – Health and Safety Measures on Campus

1. Update on campus measures against COVID-19

Following to the Government’s latest arrangements for COVID-19, the University has revised the pandemic precautions by relaxation of most of the measures previously required, e.g. body temperature scanning, vaccination records updating and mask-wearing are no longer required.

For health and safety concerns of campus community, regular disinfection/cleaning in campus have been arranged, and will be maintained for some time in future.

2. Disinfecting Antimicrobial Coating

As the University has resumed face-to-face teaching on campus in the academic year 2022/23, CDMO has carried out necessary disinfection measures to reduce the risk of epidemic outbreak and cross-infection inside the campus. Such measures will get the University prepared for and build resilience to any unforeseen pandemic in the future. To disinfect the space and the high-touch surfaces, CDMO has increased the cleaning frequency and hired service providers to manually spray disinfectant coating to the risky surfaces, and the last treatment was completed in December 2022.

3. AI Autonomous Robot

In addition, CDMO purchased one set of AI autonomous robot in October 2022 to further improve the environmental hygiene by purifying air and eliminating bacteria. The disinfection and cleaning robot allows the University to clean and disinfect the campus much more frequently and cost-effectively ensuring the disinfectant coatings on high-touch surfaces are frequently refilled to provide a safe environment for the users.

Newsletter 202209 – Health and Safety Measures on Campus

1. Campus Measures against COVID-19 and Omicron Variant

Following the Government’s requirement of Vaccine Pass (VP) for campus entry entered into the Phase/Stage 3,  the updated arrangements of campus entry w.e.f. 31 May 2022 and staff, students, residents, staff of service providers and other specified personnel, etc. can use the University ID card only for entry, whereas, guests and visitors are required to scan “LeaveHomeSafe” venue code for the VP and compete the Visitor Health Declaration (or paper form) before entering campus, for details please refer to the HSUHK – Connect issued on 15 August, 2022.

Recently, the Government further relaxes social distancing measures, the catering outlets allow maximum 8 persons per table and 120 persons in a banquet.  The restriction of the number of persons allowed in performance venues and event premises etc. relaxed to 85 per cent of their capacity.  Generally, any person dinning in Rendezvous and HSUHK Café as well as take-away dining places must use “LeaveHomeSafe” and fulfil the Vaccine Pass requirements. 

2. Disinfection and AI Sanitizing Robot

As the University has resumed classroom teaching and learning on campus in the new academic year, CDMO has carried out all necessary disinfection measures to reduce the risk of epidemic outbreak and cross-infection inside the campus. Such measures not only will get the University prepared for another possible wave of COVID-19 but will also build resilience to prepare for any unforeseen pandemic in the future.

To disinfect the space and the high-touch surfaces, CDMO has increased the cleaning frequency and hired service providers to manually spray disinfectant coating to the risky surfaces. However, such manual disinfection incurred high service cost. In order to reduce cost, CDMO has hired a sanitizing robot in March 2021, it will be more cost-effective to adopt a robotic solution to carry out autonomous disinfectant spraying as well as cleaning at the same time. A disinfection and cleaning robot allows the University to clean and disinfect the campus much more frequently and cost-effectively ensuring the disinfectant coatings on high-touch surfaces are frequently refilled to provide a safe environment for the users.

3. Donations from Different Organizations

Recently, CDMO on behalf of the University received some generous donations of anti-pandemic supplies (including hand sanitisers, surgical masks and rapid antigen test kits) from the individuals and organisations as listed below, in support of the University’s anti-pandemic work.

4. Certificate of Appreciation by the Home Affairs Bureau

CDMO on behalf of the University has assisted to distribute anti-epidemic service bags to residents of Staff Quarters and Residential Colleges and was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Home Affairs Bureau in June 2022.
