Newsletter 202509 – Projects, renovation and improvement works

  1. Setup of University History Concourse on D-G/F

CDMO had supported the University Library to set up the University History Concourse on D-G/F with new display cabinets installation in March 2025.

2. Improvement Works and New Directional Signage at Lo Hui Kit San Building

To enhance user experience and accommodate donor naming arrangements, the face-lifting works to the lift lobby on N-5/F and the installation of new directional signage to the Lecture Hall at the entrance of Lo Hui Kit San Building have been completed in April 2025.

3. The Acoustic Improvement Works to Yip Kit Chuen and Yuen Yuk Hing Hall

The acoustic improvement works at Yip Kit Chuen and Yuen Yuk Hing Hall has been completed in June 2025 in order to enhance the overall appearance and the experience of venue use.

4. Renovation Works on M-Canteen

Following the change of catering services provider at M-Canteen, Phase 1 of renovation works to M-Canteen with new self-ordering machines and new automatic tray collection system had been introduced, including the associated improvement works to service counter, furniture renewal and waterproofing for roof floor, had generally completed in August 2025. These improvements are designed to elevate the dining experience, ensuring greater convenience, efficiency, and comfort for all patrons. M-Canteen officially reopened on 1 September 2025. 

4. Hostel Facilities on 1/F, Old Hall

To address the need for increasing hostel facilities provision for students, 5 rooms in Old Hall on the ground and first floors have been refurbished to offer an additional 20 bed spaces and laundry facilities was added for hostel use in August 2025, including the relocation of the former Prayer Room to H101A to maintain its accessibility and accommodate the new layout.

5. New Vehicle Identification System in Campus

To enhance the access control and the experience of new car parking arrangement in Campus, new vehicle identification system has been installed at each access point in August 2025 with the display panel indicating the availability of parking lots.

6. Renewal Works of Heat Pump System at Lee Shau Kee Complex

The renewal works of heat pump system, which supports the water heating for indoor swimming pool, at Lee Shau Kee have been completed in August 2025.

 

7. Whole Campus Fixtures Inspection and Improvement Works

To ensure the safety, structural integrity, and functionality of campus facilities, comprehensive inspections and improvement works were conducted across various buildings from June to August 2025. These efforts prioritize community safety, regulatory compliance, and an enhanced campus environment. Below is a summary of the completed works:

  • Window Inspection at S H Ho Academic Building and Lee Shau Kee Complex: Conducted from 21 June 21 to 10 July 2025, this inspection identified and addressed potential safety hazards, such as faulty window mechanisms or glass damage, to ensure a secure environment for students and staff.
  • External Wall Inspection and Improvement Works at Old Hall (1/F and 2/F): Carried out from 2 July to 18 August 2025, these works assessed and enhanced the structural stability and weather resistance of external walls, mitigating risks of deterioration and extending building longevity.
  • Curtain Inspection in Offices and Classrooms (Lee Shau Kee Complex, Creative Humanities Hub, Lee Quo Wei Academic Building, M Building, and Lo Hui Kit San Building): Conducted and completed on 9 August 2025, this inspection was to evaluate curtain condition and arrange replacement.
  • Replacement of Webbing Sling and Load Testing of Lighting Truss: Conducted from July to August 2025, CDMO conducted periodic safety checks on the lighting truss hoisting system, replacing webbing slings with solid hanging truss adaptors and performing load testing to ensure the safety and reliability of the overhead lighting system.

All inspections and improvements were completed on schedule, ensuring a safe and optimized campus environment as of 1 September 2025.
