Preparation for the new academic year

To address the health and safety considerations arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the University maintained rigorous safety precautions on campus and the Residential Colleges including applying disinfection coating in common areas and in facilities such as the Library, gymnasium, toilet and lifts, increased frequency of cleaning and rate of air circulation in classrooms, offices and common areas, physical distancing, mandatory masking, health declaration, body temperature checking, and tightened campus access control. In addition, alcohol wet wipes are also provided for teachers for equipment cleaning.

An established contingency plan for handling pneumonia and influenza pandemic was already in place, and will serve to handle suspected cases, if found, in accordance with the prescribed procedures. 

Highlights on Preventive Measures against COVID-19

The University has implemented stringent infection preventive measures on campus.

Temperature checks are done and hand sanitizers provided at strategic indoor locations on campus. Thermal imaging cameras had been set up at the entrances of 1/F of Lee Quo Wei Academic Building (D), G/F of S H Ho Administration Building (A) and Residential Colleges (RCs) as well.  The University has also allocated handheld thermometers in all student halls, security counters, vehicular entrances and at M246 (CDMO’s office) during office hours to implement appropriate temperature screening.

To reduce the risk of airborne spread of the coronavirus in poorly ventilated or enclosed places, CDMO staff had carried out disinfection at all offices to ensure a safe working environment.

The requirement for wearing of surgical masks on campus will continue to be in force to ensure the health and safe of the campus community. In this connection, the University has again offered a box of surgical masks (50 pcs) to each full-time staff member in mid-July to support their work on campus for the coming months.

Sufficient personal protective equipment are provided to frontline-staff when carrying out proprietary disinfections to the common areas, a/c filters, water tanks and water dispenser.

Housekeeping has increased frequency of intensive cleaning and disinfection for all classrooms, lobbies, elevators and public areas.

In order to further enhance HSUHK’s precautionary measures on campus against COVID-19,  CDMO has arranged to have disinfecting specialist to provide anti-virus protection in public areas.  Disinfection Coating Areas include all main entrances of buildings, library, toilets, lifts, gym room, meeting rooms, 24-hr computer rooms, sitting area of HSUHK Cafe, Rendezvous and the Always etc.

To reintroduce a limit on the maximum of four people per table at catering outlets following a relief in local coronavirus infections.
